Donation Frequently Asked Questions
What is Gift Aid?
If you are a UK taxpayer, Sentebale can reclaim 25p on every pound you give us with no extra cost to you. So if you give Sentebale £10, it is actually worth £12.50 to us.
However, you do need to pay enough tax to cover your Gift Aid. For example, if you want Sentebale to reclaim £25 on a donation of £100, you must pay at least £25 in income or capital gains tax during that tax year.
To enable us to do this, you need to complete a Gift Aid form. If you would like Sentebale to claim Gift Aid on any money you raise, please download and print the Gift Aid form before sending it to: Sentebale, 136 Sloane Street, London, SW1X 9AY.

I’m a US taxpayer. Can I make a tax-deductible donation?
Yes, US taxpayers can make tax-deductible donations to American Friends of Sentebale, a registered 501(c)(3) non- profit organisation. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more.
Can I send old toys, books, clothes and so on, to Lesotho?
Whilst many people are kind enough to offer us donations of things like clothes, food, books and equipment we regret that we are unable to accept donations of this kind. This is because we have a policy of buying locally, for the following reasons:
- Buying locally is faster, cheaper, and more environmentally friendly:
It removes the need to collect, pack and ship by sea or air the donated supplies, thus saving money and minimising our carbon footprint. Most items can be purchased locally by projects themselves, or by the country team who can reclaim VAT on purchases.
- Local purchasing increases accountability:
Buying locally gives responsibility to each project team to buy appropriate items, effectively and efficiently. We prefer to offer financial assistance to our partners to enable them to buy their own supplies against an agreed plan. Projects then also have the responsibility for providing feedback to donors.
- Local purchasing helps the local economy.
If you wish to help supply much-needed equipment to Sentebale projects, please consider supporting our policy of buying locally by making a donation.
